Tourist tax in Albret

Welcome to the Albret Tourisme tourist tax section

Tourist tax

The purpose of the tourist tax is to strengthen the Pays d'Albret region's appeal as a tourist and leisure destination.

The tourist tax was introduced in Albret in April 2007, alongside a significant increase in the number of commercial beds available in the area. It is part of an active policy to develop tourism in the area (river tourism, creation or modernization of key tourist facilities, etc.).

Thanks to this tax, the Albret Tourist Offices have additional resources to improve tourist facilities and develop the region's tourist offering in collaboration with Albret's socio-professionals (tourist communication, marketing, professional events, etc.).

The communities of Albret have opted for the "actual" tax system because:

  • it adapts to climate risks,
  • it applies after VAT,
  • It is fairer, even if it remains difficult to manage.

In 2015, the legal framework for tourist tax was amended, prompting local authorities in Albret to deliberate on changes to certain aspects of the tourist tax applied in Albret. These changes came into effect on March1, 2016. They include:

  • The creation of two new categories of accommodation: luxury hotels and 5-star accommodation.
  • The application of tourist tax in commercial marinas within the territory.
  • The elimination of exemptions
  • The application of the tourist tax exemption for children under 18 years of age.
  • The creation of a specific category for all bed and breakfasts
