What to visit in Mézin?
The Arcade Square
Beautiful stone houses that belonged to important people in the village during the Middle Ages, including consuls and wealthy merchants.
The Church of Saint John the Baptist
The fortified church is a place of refuge in case of attack. Its circular towers allow the surroundings to be monitored and defend against enemies. Walking along the north side of the square, you enter the church via the main square. From the back of the nave, you walk towards the choir, which was consecrated in 1077.
It took 350 years to complete the building.
Admire the stained glass windows, the organ, and the faces on the pillars, one of which, at the entrance, is said to be Eleanor of Aquitaine.
The Cork and Stopper Museum
The Cork and Stopper Museum traces the industrial history of Mézin from the 18th century to the 1950s. Follow in the footsteps of the bark harvesters in the cork oak forest, discover the daily life of the workers who transformed cork into stoppers, and be surprised by the new uses of cork!
