On the slopes of Albret, Le Saumont is a village whose rural economy is characterized by the production of cereals, grains, seeds, fruits, and early vegetables, some of which are grown in greenhouses. This municipality has about 160 inhabitants and offers a panoramic view of the valley. The name Le Saumont comes from the Latin root "Saltus Montus," meaning wooded mountain.
From a historical perspective, two settlements are mentioned in the 1818 land registry: one in front of the castle, which was completely destroyed in the 19th century, and the other with a regular layout linked to the parish church, which happens to be the location of the current village. The castle has a regular U-shaped layout and was built in the 17th century. Acquired in 1956 by the association "Les Petits Frères des Pauvres," the castle became a temporary shelter for the elderly, and its outbuildings were converted into bedrooms and offices. The grounds feature numerous cedar trees, as well as a spring and a pond.
