Lannes

On the border of the Gers department

The landscape is characteristic of the rolling hills of Armagnac, with views stretching as far as the Pyrenees.

The 13th-century church in Lannes is remarkable for its three-story pyramidal bell tower with five bell openings, at the foot of which the church opens onto a Romanesque portal classified as a Historic Monument. It has been dedicated to the Virgin Mary since the 11th century. The nave has a barrel vaulted ceiling and the choir is semi-circular. The current entrance is through a porch.

Worth seeing: on the exterior wall of the choir, a mason's mark in the shape of a small hammer.

Visit La Grangerie, a property established in a former Premonstratensian monastery. The wine cellar is located in the monks' former chapel. Remains of the cloister and buildings from the 17th/18th centuries await you.

Two other charming little Romanesque churches, to the east and south, are open to visitors. These are the 12th-century church of Cazeaux, notable for its listed Roman-Byzantine portal, triangular bell tower, and emban. Further away is the church of Fousserie, which was once attached to a fortified castle that no longer exists. Don't miss the small protruding head on the wall of the bell tower.

Discover nature

Hiking and cycling are very popular activities on the many marked trails. This is a mainly agricultural and wine-growing community, where visitors can find many regional products such as Armagnacs, Flocs de Gascogne, local wines, and prunes.
