Village of Thouars-sur-Garonne
The village developed around the ford that had allowed people to cross the Garonne River since time immemorial. There are traces dating back to the 13th century of the existence of a toll castle, of which only its reputation and a few writings remain today. This ford was part of the Ténarèze, a route that linked Bordeaux to the Eastern Pyrenees.
